Composing A Proper Dissertation Title Page In Three Steps

Writing a dissertation seems like a challenging task since there are so many details to keep in mind. You should come up with an interesting topic, do a literature review, conduct your research, describe your findings, and format the paper properly. Each dissertation should contain the necessary elements, including a title page.

This is the first thing that your readers see when they view your work, so it is important to compose it properly. Keep in mind that you never get a second chance to make a first impression, so follow these three simple steps carefully.

  1. Include all the required elements.
  2. The title page requires the name of your work; your first and last name; your previous degrees, if any; your department, school, faculty, and program; a copyright statement; the semester and year; and an all rights reserved statement, if required. It is recommended that you check the requirements of your supervisor and follow them carefully. Try to get a sample dissertation first page at your school academic writing center.

  3. Make sure that your title is written correctly.
  4. The title is the most important element of the title page. You should check to make sure it is the same on all documents, including the signed approval document (if you have one), the non-exclusive copyright license, etc. It is advisable to avoid using quotation marks around the name of your work. You should not include a period after it. Avoid using acronyms unless absolutely necessary, since this might confuse your readers.

  5. Format the document in the proper manner.
  6. The title page should be only one page long. Typically, it should not be numbered. You can ask your supervisor where you can get a template. You can also look for a dissertation writing manual in the library. In this manual, you will find the formatting guidelines, including font size, spaces between lines, margins, headers, and so on. It is a good idea to visit your professor after the document is ready in order to get feedback.

Usually, students compose dissertation title pages when the work is ready. In truth, you can prepare it whenever you have free time. It takes less time than you think. After the document is ready, take a break and revise it later. You must ensure that there are no mistakes and the provided information is correct. Then, print it and read aloud. If everything is fine, you can start working on other tasks.
